Who we are
Our Values
We are an evangelical church created by, built upon, sustained through, and delighting in the gospel of the Lord Jesus. As part of the Church of Confessing Anglicans (CCAANZ), we gladly stand in the Anglican tradition.
Our Values
At the heart of who we are are three convictions:
- Captivated by Jesus - We listen to Jesus in his word and keep marvelling at his goodness to us
- Committed to the Gospel - We hold fast to the good news of Christ and let it shape everything about us as God's family.
- Compelled to Make Disciples - Because of God's grace, we gladly give ourselves to making mature followers of Jesus in ever-increasing numbers.
Our Mission
Everything we do flows from who Jesus is and what he has done for us. We gather around his word each Sunday, we meet in homes through the week, and we give ourselves to reaching South Christchurch and the world with his gospel.
We are grounded in the Bible, since it is in his word that we meet him, hear him, and are shaped by him.
Our People
Everyone is welcome at Trinity. No matter your background or belief, we believe in a God who turns no-one away who seeks him, and who transforms all of us, by the work of his Spirit, into the image and likeness of Jesus.
We are a family of around 250 people. We come from a variety of backgrounds, are always welcoming, and occasionally well-dressed. We have a bunch of students (Engineering is a bit over-represented, but we also have at least one classics student) and one lecturer (of Tax History, but he promises not to tell you about it unless you ask). We have a number of nurses and a surgeon; a number of builders and a few gardeners, though only these latter have ever practised on-site. A couple of members of the congregation do stunning desserts, which occasionally appear after church. There's a spread of kids through most ages, and a bunch of people from the nearby Archer Village.
Our aim as a church is to grow as disciples of Jesus — and to help others grow as disciples too. We believe spiritual maturity looks like:
- Worship - enjoying God and putting him first in all of life.
- Belonging - committing ourselves to one another as Christ has committed himself to us.
- Maturity - growing in knowing God through his word to be more like Jesus.
- Ministry - serving each other as Jesus serves us.
- Mission - joining in Jesus' mission to make disciples throughout Christchurch and the world.
Our Wider Partnership
We are an Anglican church, part of the Church of Confessing Anglicans Aotearoa New Zealand, or CCAANZ for short(-ish).
This diocese, formed in 2019, is composed of churches throughout Aotearoa which are united in the great news of Jesus Christ declared in the Bible.
We are good friends with Latimer Church on the north side of town; St Stephens in Shirley; and Cornerstone Church in Riccarton (not part of CCAANZ, but we don't hold that against them).
The legal name for Trinity is Trinity South Christchurch Incorporated a registered charity (CC56081). Our charity details, including rules, purposes and annual returns can be accessed on the Charities Register .
